65 days. Brassica oleracea. Open Pollinated. Spigariello Broccoli. The plant produces good yields of very flavorful leaf broccoli. It is technically a broccoli, but without the dense green heads of broccoli. Instead, it is something like a miniature kale but sweeter and milder. Great source of vitamins A, C, and K, rich in antioxidants, and has anti-inflammatory and immune enhancing properties. You can cut it all season, and it keeps coming back. This fresh green from southern Italy has become quite a hot item among foodies and top chefs. Tolerates hot conditions without bolting. Heat Tolerant. Bolt Resistant. Excellent choice for home gardens. An heirloom variety from Italy.

Broccoli Planting Information:

Broccoli does best when temperatures remain between 40 F and 70 F during the growing period. Temperatures below 25 F can damage or kill broccoli. Spring planting should occur as soon as soil can be worked and after the last frost, and fall planting should be done 10 to 12 weeks before the first frost. In most areas, broccoli grows best if planted in late summer so it can mature during cool periods. Plants can grow 2 ft tall.

Soil Requirements:

Requires fertile soil in a well-drained location in the garden. Apply mulch, grass clippings, or straw around the base of the plant.

Water Requirements:

Keep well watered or the plant will have premature heading and flowering.

Fertilizer Requirements:

Use Slow Release (6 Month) Fertilizer when transplanting outdoors. Apply Miracle Gro Liquid Fertilizer periodically.

Harvest Tips:

When you begin to see the buds spread out, it is time to harvest. Cut heads with a sharp knife.
