These beautiful rich flavored eggplants are used to make Eggplant Parmesan. Also, known as Imperial Black Beauty Eggplant. A 1902 heirloom from India. Eggplant Seed Planting Information:

Eggplants do best in well-drained soil that has been enhanced with compost and manure. They thrive in high heat and high humidity areas. Plant your seeds indoors, 6 to 8 weeks before setting outside. When seedlings are 4" to 6" tall, transplant them into larger pots so roots can grow properly. Grow transplants at 50 F to 70 F. Spring planting should occur 2 weeks after last frost. Protect the plants from frost and wind. Plants will not set fruit when nighttime temperatures fall below 65 F. Plants can grow 3 ft tall.

Soil Requirements:

Requires fertile slightly acid soil in a well drained location in the garden. Apply much and grass clippings, or straw around base of plant.

Water Requirements:

Water well during dry and hot spells.

Fertilizer Requirements:

Use RootBlast, Vegetable Alive, and Slow Release Fertilizer when transplanting outdoors. Apply Miracle Gro once a month. Side dress plants with compost and manure.

Harvest Tips:

Cut fruit from plant when they are fully mature and reach full color.

I have been growing Black Beauty Egg plant here in Texas for many years. I had just 3 Plants this year and harvested over 150 very large eggplants. I have been totally organic for the last 20 years.

We love our Black Beauty eggplants. We had very good fruits. This heirloom does well in our garden, and is great in all our eggplant dishes. We really think it's a perfect eggplant. Thank you for it!

I've had great luck with this variety. I live in the very hot edge of the San Joaquin Valley and have had 15 large eggplants from just one plant, and I have 4 more developing right now, which will put me at 19 over the season. I am very impressed. Taste and texture are great too!
