90 days. Annual. Helianthus annuus. Open Pollinated. Mongolian Giant Sunflower. The plant produces heavy amounts of large 1 ½" long sunflower seeds. They are great for eating. The yellow flowers are enormous, grow 18" across, and yield a lot of seeds. The plants grow 14 ft tall. It is one of the tallest sunflowers known to exist. When the backs turn yellow, cut the flower, and let it dry upside down. For high wind regions, it is recommended to stake the plants to protect them from wind damage. Easy for kids to grow. Great for school projects. It makes an interesting focal point in beds and borders. An heirloom variety from the USA.

Annual flowers do best when planted indoors and transplanted outdoors when the danger of frost has passed. Plant your seeds indoors 5 to 7 weeks before setting them outside. For tiny seeds, do not cover with seed starting mix. Just sprinkle the seeds on top. Transplant them outside in the garden when the seedlings are established. Plants can grow 1 - 3 ft tall.
Requires rich, fertile soil in a well-drained location in the garden. Apply mulch, grass clippings, or straw around the base of the plant.
Water well during dry and hot spells.
Use Slow Release (6 Month) Fertilizer when planting outdoors. Periodically apply Miracle-Gro.
Snip the stems with garden scissors when the flowers are in full color.
