Bad seeds. Great variety.
I have grown this variety from other suppliers for years and have had good success. One seed sprouted. Bad seeds.

I am tracking results for my tomatoes this year.  Carbon has been one the the better varieties for flavor.  I live near San Diego, CA, so cool nights till about mid-June.  Average weight for 52 tomatoes is 6.56 oz, 12 were over 8 oz, and the largest weighed 18.62 oz.  Pretty impressive variety, but production somewhat low.  Planning to try Cherokee Carbon next year.

I have grown this variety in BC, Canada since I discovered it several years ago. It is probably my favourite large black tomato for flavour for fresh eating. I now only grow red tomatoes for cooking and sauces.

I grew this for the first time this year here in northern Virginia.  It has done well.  Yields were a bit below what I'd hoped for, but I chalk that up to growing the plants in 5 gallon buckets instead of in the ground.  I've had some cracks on the top, which is just a cosmetic issue and is, again, probably due to growing in too small of a container (to be fair, though, I haven't had cracking with many of my other varieties).  The taste is simply fantastic.  It has a strong, distinctive tomato taste and when I take a bite from a carbon and then from an early girl or beefsteak, there is simply no comparison.  I love this tomato and will grow many next year!
